Edgar and Joes Café at Innovation Works London is undergoing a new makeover!

New improvements have already been made including becoming more sustainable, increasing more grab and go items – showcasing breakfast pastries, sandwiches, wraps and more variety, making nutrition easier for your busy work day. The menu has been updated with a new design look, and more delicious meals will be added for everyone to enjoy. Every food item at Edgar and Joe's is made in-house with a priority in keeping healthy, seasonal, and majority local. Why should you care about these changes?

Local produce could increase your nutrient value and bioavailability. Produce is usually picked early to account for long transportation times to arrive to the grocery stores. Local produce is given more time to ripen before it is picked and the phytochemicals have more time to develop. Specifically, this is the case for peaches, broccoli, red peppers, tomatoes, and kale to name a few, and they are more susceptible to nutrient loss during long transport.

Just one of the ingredients listed above, tomatoes, are high in vitamin C and the antioxidant lycopene which gives it the known red colour. Lycopene is evidenced to develop towards the end of the ripening stages, meaning premature harvesting and cold conditions can negatively affect this nutrient.

Antioxidants such as lycopene are known for its role in fighting free radicals which can be a factor in causing cancers or certain diseases.
